Introduction to Dock Diving

This workshop is available to dogs of all abilities, those new to the water to those that are jumping of the dock at the cottage.

Marie-Josse Theriault Spurrell, from Avalon Ranch will be your instructor for the workshop. Marie has several years of experience with dock diving dogs, and with introducing dogs to the water for the first time.

SWIM AND DIVE LESSONS  - Welcome to Avalon Ranch

Our Address is 1934 Lochwinnoch Road, Renfrew. You can park next to the Agility field (not at the house, please never open our gate), just park before the pilons to minimise

 driving on the grass. Arrive  no more than 5 minutes before class and leave promptly after class to afford other students their time undistracted. There is a path to walk your dog until class starts where they can relieve themselves (on leash at all times, no retractable leashes). Please do not let your dog pee on the Agility field fence or on the pool and dock. The pool can be perforated by dog claws from the exterior. Do not let dogs jump on the outside wall of the pool. We appreciate you brushing/de-shedding your dog before coming for a swim as it helps keep the pool clean. 

 

Things you will need for class:

- a change of clothes, be prepared to go in the pool to assist your dog, and a towel for each of you 

- a collar and a leash (not a retractable)

- a couple of your dogs favorite floating toy (balls are difficult to track and grasp in water and frisbees are difficult to throw at the proper angle and must have a hole in the middle to avoid water intoxication). Long bumpers are preferable. 

- floating treats if your dog isn’t toy-motivated. Charlie Bears and freeze dried liver float.

- if you have a lifejacket for your dog, bring it but do NOT go out and buy one. We sell very buoyant ones here at a good price and one will be provided for the lesson 

No drone flying on the property. 

NEVER INTRODUCE A NEW DOG TO THE POOL OR DOCK WITHOUT MY IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION. 

If your dog is not off the dock during your class DO NOT introduce the dock by yourself during the rental (Open Dock Session - You are able to use the ramp if they are swimming).  

Please note our life jackets are only available for lessons not rentals (so not for the Open Dock session).

WAIVER AND INDEMNITY - By Registering you are agreeing to this waiver.

In consideration for the opportunity to participate in activities with my dog(s) at Avalon Ranch or at an Avalon Ranch off-site activity, I hereby release, waive, forever discharge and indemnity Avalon Ranch and each of its owners, employees, volunteers, representatives,  sub-contractors and insurers from any and all actions, causes of actions, suits, debts, liens dues, accounts bonds, covenants, claims and demands whatsoever which heretofore may have been or may hereafter be maintained by me, directly or indirectly, whether in law or in equity, arising from my volunteer activity for Avalon Ranch including, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, all claims for death, loss or injury to any person or property including all damage, loss or injury to now known or anticipated but which may arise in the future.

I further agree not to make any claim or take any proceedings against any other person or corporation who might claim contributing or indemnity at law, in equity or by statue, from the persons or corporations discharged by this release.

By registering and participating in this activity with my dog(s) I agree to the above Waiver and Indemnity.

The workshop will be limited to 6 dogs, priority will be given to existing customers first - then in order of registration. 

Dogs should over 4months. Lifejackets are available to use (and purchase) at Avalon Ranch. If you already have one please bring it with you.

Dogs must be deemed confident by Marie, to be able to access the afternoons Open Dock Event.

Please note Avalon Ranch Pool is situated outside and amongst several acres of open fields.

The dock has gates for entrance and exit, the field is not fenced.

Cost per dog $52.50

In the event that you need to cancel your registration we will refund (less administrative fee, if the space can be filled).
