About the event

Sloppy sits can happen for a number of reasons, but all result in poor posture in our K9 friends.

Why should we be concerned about poor posture - Poor posture can lead to poor/improper muscular skeletal development and ultimately to chronic back and hip pain.

Younger dogs may have a sloppy sit because of a muscle imbalance through their postural muscles, these muscles are small and can be weak meaning holding the position (or even obtaining the position) can be challenging.

Starting life with sloppy sits, can develop into a long term habit - so encouraging the correct sit at young ages is valuable.

This workshop will take you through the following steps:

Understanding a what a Good Sit looks like

Reviewing your dogs posture against a Good Sit

Identifying and practising exercises that can improve or maintain your dogs posture (in the sit).

Pre-Requisities:

You must  have your dogs vaccinations ready to submit post registration, you will receive an email post payment requesting these (vaccinations must be in date at time of the event and include Bordetella).  This is a requirement.

Pups/Dogs must be toilet trained

Please bring a means to video your dog (cell phone/ GoPro etc)

Dog must be able to sit on cue (verbal or visual)

Crates will be useful

In all cases:

There are several possible health-related reasons for your dog’s has a sloppy sit. These include injuries, possible weaknesses, joints or soft tissues issues etc... These cases should be seen by a veterinarian or rehab specialist first. Forcing a dog into a correct sit when it is  not physically able to (or ready yet), can quickly do more harm than good and requires professional help. Please make sure you dog is physically fit before you sign up for this class.
